The Tongass National Forest is the biggest national forest in the United States at 16.9 million acres.

Geography of Alaska

Alaska has 640 sq. miles of land for every mile of paved road. Arizona has 42 sq. miles of land for every mile of road. In other words, Alaska’s land-to-road ratio is 15.3 times greater than ours.

Arizona is 73 million acres, 19.4 million of that being forest.

This means the size of the Tongass is nearly all of our forests here in Arizona, which is roughly a quarter of all our land.
