Who we are
The Tongass National Forest in Southeast Alaska (SEAK) are the lungs of North America and hold the essential breeding grounds for all 5 species of Pacific salmon. Located in SE Alaska, the 16.7ma forest of Tongass has been a contentious area of debate due to the Roadless Rule of 2001 and clear-cut logging restrictions.
The protections on this forest were recently removed by an executive order in January of this year, along with an anticipated 1,300 federal employees fired in AK.
Despite 96% of public support for keeping the Roadless Rule protections in place, the same administration is pushing for vast, destructive timber harvest in this irreplaceable landscape.
